Chowan County Convenience Sites
Convenience Centers are operated by the PCG Landfill Commission with Albemarle Regional Health Services Employees.

2022 Convenience Site Schedule for Holiday - All PCG Convenience Sites will close Thanksgiving Day (11-24), Christmas Eve (12-24), Christmas Day (12-25), and New Year’s Day (1-1). The convenience sites will also remain closed on all regularly scheduled closed days through November, December, and January.
 
Mission and Responsibilities

Perquimans, Chowan, and Gates County residents may bring solid waste and recyclables to county convenience centers. Please follow the recycling instructions included below and those of the site attendants.  

Large quantities of waste and all commercial and industrial waste must be taken to the Perquimans, Chowan, and Gates County (PCG) Solid Waste Facility and transfer station on Perry's Bridge Road in Belvidere. Businesses are encouraged to recycle at these sites.  Charges may apply for some types of materials

Recycling News

  • Swap Shops
    Each county currently have swap shops for residents to drop off usable household goods that are in good condition. No clothes are accepted. Residents may pick up a limit of three items per family per week at no charge; items not for resale. Chowan Swap Shop locations are at the Sound Side Drive Site, Ryland and Hancock Station SiteOther items may be donated to local charity shops or sold at yard sales.
  • Composting is Recycling!
    Composting food scraps and yard clippings produces valuable soil and can reduce household waste by as much as 25%! Look up composting on the Internet, call Cooperative Extension, or call Albemarle Regional Solid Waste at 338-4458.
