The Chowan County Water Department distributes 31 million gallons of water per month to 4,100 customers in Chowan County. The Water Department maintains and repairs water lines, tests water quality throughout the system, records meter readings for customer usage and produces monthly billing. Most of the positions in the Water Department require certification and the knowledge and experience necessary to safely operate the equipment used to provide potable water to customers.
