Update: March 28, 2024
Sunday March 31st at 10PM, water operators will continue flushing in Phase II, as original plans have been adjusted due to multiple water main breaks caused by subcontractors installing underground fiber optic utilities. Flushing will pickup south of White's Landing and proceed southward toward US17, including West Queen Street. Phase II should be finished by 6AM Friday, April 5th.
Phase II is scheduled to begin Sunday, April 7th. This phase includes county customers that live south of US17 with the exception of West Queen Street because that are will already be complete. Phase III is expected to be complete by 6AM Friday, April 12th.

If you are served by the Chowan County Water Department please note the following:
On Sunday March 10th Chowan County Water Department will begun flushing 300 miles of water mains to ensure that our customers receive high quality water. Flushing will occur Sunday through Friday during the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., to minimize inconvenience to customers.
Flushing will occur in three phases with one phase being flushed each week. Phase 1 includes areas east of Highway 32 and north of Highway 17, Phase 2 includes areas west of Highway 32 and north of Highway 17 and Phase 3 which is all areas south of Highway 17. This will NOT impact the Town of Edenton Water customers. On Sunday March 17h they will begin Phase Two and on Sunday March 24th they will move into Phase Three. All flushing will be completed by March 29th.
If you experience discoloration or loss of pressure, we recommend flushing the service line for 5 to 10 minutes from the meter to your house by opening an outside spigot. This should help protect against discoloration or particles from getting into washing machines, dishwashers, kitchen, and bath faucets. We apologize for the inconvenience. The flushing schedule along with a map can be found on the home page of the Chowan County Website.
