The Chowan County Board of Commissioners appoints representatives to local and regional committees, boards, commissions and authorities. If any citizen of Chowan County is interested in serving as a representative to any of these groups, please fill out and submit the application at the bottom of this page.
CURRENT VOLUNTEER BOARD VACANCIES
Chowan County residents who are interested in being appointed to fill upcoming vacancies on various boards and committees are encouraged to fill out an application. The Chowan County Board of Commissioners appoint representatives to local and regional committees, boards, commissions and authorities.
Chowan County Tourism Development Authority -
Seat 6 is currently vacant. This appointment is for a 3 year term. Appointee must be currently active in the promotion of travel and tourism in Chowan County.
County Planning Board - Area D
The is an advisory body to the Chowan County Board of Commissioners and deals with land use, zoning and development issues. In addition to attending Planning Board meetings (usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm), these board members also hold public hearings on subdivision plan review, rezonings, conditional use and special use permits, and ordinance amendments. The Planning Board consists of seven (7) members appointed by the County Commissioners.
Nursing Home Advisory Board (Community Advisory Committee)
The Albemarle Commission Area Agency on Aging offers you the opportunity to be an advocate for residents living in long term care facilities through visits and companionship. The committee works to maintain the intent of the Resident's Bill of Rights, makes quarterly visits to assigned facilities to appraise general conditions under which persons are residing and to establish rapport with residents, families, staff and administrators. Chowan County Board of Adjustment
As an appointed, quasi-judicial body, the Board of Adjustment hears and decides appeals, variance requests, and requests for interpretations from this Ordinance as authorized by NCGS 160D- 302/405. There are currently one regular seat vacancy and two vacant “alternate” seats. This Board is NOT assigned by districts at this time.
Town of Edenton Planning Board
Applicant must reside in the ETJ- The Town's Planning Board consists of seven members. Five members, appointed by the Town Council, shall reside within the town. Two members, appointed by the County Board of Commissioners, shall reside within the town's extraterritorial planning area.
