Here in Chowan DSS, we strive to serve the public to the best of our ability. It is our goal and mission to help our most vulnerable citizens as best we can through our programs. We strive to always:

• Treat each client with respect and dignity
• Work to assess each situation to insure that all possible resources available are examined
• Maintain efficiency and effectiveness
• Maximize our resources and budget to do the best possible job for the least amount of monies
• Constantly look inward to see where we can improve

The Social Service Department is a complex human services agency with a myriad of funding streams and programs. It at times can be quite overwhelming. Our workers are here to work with you to the best of their abilities to help you understand our programs and services.

Visitors must also understand that not all people will qualify for our programs, as many have eligibility guidelines. In addition, some of our programs have limited resources and may not meet the total need for the county. However, we always are working to advocate for adequate resources so as to meet as much of the need as possible.
