Department Overview
Chowan County EMS (CCEMS), a county owned and operated service, started in 1965 and currently serves as the primary emergency and non-emergency medical service provider for all 233 square miles of Chowan County to include the town of Edenton. EMS is provided at the Paramedic level serving roughly 14,500 residents, workers, & visitors with quality ALS care 24 hours a day. Chowan County EMS operates a fleet of 6 type III advanced life support ambulances and 1 state licensed ALS quick response vehicle out of 3 stations located strategically throughout the county to provide fast and efficient response to any incident requiring EMS. Staffing for an annual call volume of approx. 5,800 requests for service is accomplished by 21 full time employees, 15 part time employees, and an additional 12 local volunteers all operating on 12 hour shifts.
